POST-TRIAL LOOSE ENDS & SHARING
[that night, after a KO'd Eddie has been brought back to Cabin 3 to recuperate and everyone has scattered, Richie returns to the campfire with a book tucked under his arm, and a flashlight. he's not thinking about bringing supplies for s'mores, or hot dogs, or burgers, or any of that, not this week. so if anyone wants to show up with food, they're welcome. if anyone has appetites.
this week, he's focused on the remnants of a word he scribbled in the dirt earlier, flipping through the book he found on Thursday. he exhales, slowly, looking like he might just be sick all over again, no matter how tired he is. the makeshift scarf Cielo made him is draped over his shoulders to keep away any evening chill]
Oh, God. I ... I know what they said, you guys.

[he hopes the dumbass joke at least made him smile - that was the point. he leans on him, watching the fire]

[He mutters, a little embarrassed to admit that he just wants to be close to Richie right now. He takes comfort in his presence, in the arm around his shoulders. It's a reminder that Richie's here, that he's not going to leave him or lie to him.]

[his voice breaks a little on those last few words, but he doesn't bother to choke back the tears, not here. not with Eddie. maybe with everyone else, tonight, he has, but ... Eddie's seen him cry plenty of times. the nights his parents fought, when Belch Huggins really did ruin his backpack (no joke there), when Henry Bowers kicked him in the ass on his way down the stairs and he landed face-first on the sidewalk and broke his glasses. all those times he's been hurt, and lost, and afraid, and pissed off, that mix that he never knows what to do with? nine times out of ten, Eddie's been there - and on the tenth, he only wasn't because of his dumbass mother.
if there's anyone he'd never lie to ... he's leaning right next to him. and he realizes, with a sudden pang of ... something ... that that's most of the reason this feels like home, right now. it's not the fire, or the smell of the trees. it's Eddie.]
