[that night, after a KO'd Eddie has been brought back to Cabin 3 to recuperate and everyone has scattered, Richie returns to the campfire with a book tucked under his arm, and a flashlight. he's not thinking about bringing supplies for s'mores, or hot dogs, or burgers, or any of that, not this week. so if anyone wants to show up with food, they're welcome. if anyone has appetites.

this week, he's focused on the remnants of a word he scribbled in the dirt earlier, flipping through the book he found on Thursday. he exhales, slowly, looking like he might just be sick all over again, no matter how tired he is. the makeshift scarf Cielo made him is draped over his shoulders to keep away any evening chill]

Oh, God. I ... I know what they said, you guys.

I asked Mitsuru if she had any ideas. She's thinking about it... which is good. I'm ... really not good at coming up with plans.

What did she say about it?

Ah— hey, it's okay. You found the dictionary and that's definitely something that will be useful in the long run once we are able to come up with something to communicate with it and hopefully get some answers.

She said it might be worth talking to the animals in the lake if we can figure out a safe way to do it.

Yeah - that's the idea. I just hope everyone is sharing what they know. If people keep holding on to secrets ...

[he looks toward the lake. he's trying not to think about the fact that he thought Talcott was honest with him. that he believed that, with all his heart, right up until whatever Ichigo became called him out ...]

Well I definitely agree with that— I'm sure if we work together we can figure out some sort of plan so that it's willing to talk to us.

[clarke didn't know talcott all that well but she knew that richie did given they shared a cabin and even hearing his words defending him until they learned the truth. she knows the pain of what it is like to be betrayed by someone you trusted so she can sympathize with that] Yeah, I hope so too. The more open and honest we are with each other, the easier it will be to figure things out and get some answers.

[he nods, slowly]

Have you found anything weird? Or ... stuff anyone else might need to know about?

Not yet— at least not anything new. [the only weird thing she has experienced was disappearing for a day and having her memories wiped but that is something she knows the answer to now from the video that red showed them] If I do, I'll definitely share it with the rest of the camp.

Not anything new? [he adjusts his glasses]

I don't think I heard about what you found before.

Oh— [she looks in thought for a moment. she doesn't think she knows anything beyond what they have already discovered and what some others have shared but suddenly the realization hits her from what she found last week from examining soma's body] Ah— yeah from last week...we found Soma's body which I was able to examine.

Lenka told me a little bit about that.

[he frowns, not liking the fact that they're talking about a body like a thing, when Soma was the guy who slept in the bunk over his for the first few days. he may not have known him well, but he was still a person, and it sucks]

... If he had coral in his head ... how come he's not here, like Lilith? What's ... what's the difference?

Maybe it's different because his death wasn't because of another camper or a result of Red's punishments?

So ... are you saying that the rock might not necessarily be what makes them ...

[because they don't come back. that's a sick joke, calling it that]

Yeah, that's my theory at least— I'm not sure if I'm right but I'm still trying to determine the cause of it.

What other kinda stuff would you need to be able to figure it out? I might not be good at plans but I can help look.

I'll have to get back to you on that. It might just be something I need to talk to Red about if she knows more about why it is different— since it's like nothing I've ever seen before.
