TRIAL

It takes a full day after finding the body, but on Saturday, the counselors call you all to the campfire, the bonfire already roaring away as everyone finds their seats. Red is seated there, but Stan isn't here...? The box saying 'VOTES' sits quietly on his seat.

It looks like you're here to find the killer.

And just like before, you know you'll be forced to vote before the night's over...

And condemn someone to a grisly fate.

[Well it's not an Archer dick pic but. um.

There's definitely a couple of (a clothed) Red and Archer lounging about. It looks like Red snapped them while Archer was napping.

There's also one of Archer at the camp itself and his hair is down, which. Hmm. He might look a little familiar. Also look he can actually smile!

There's also a bunch of pictures of various campers at camp and such. Most of them will be unrecognizable to Ren and Mitsuru, but Ryoji is definitely in them, as are all the kids who have been in videos so far. Oh, and Akechi can be seen in the background of a couple of them too. So there's that.

There's other faces that would be recognizable to other campers, but Ren and Mitsuru won't know them.

There's also a picture of Red...um. Well she's not NAKED, but she's wearing a very nice yellow dress (the one from the concert, Ren will recognize it) and is clearly posing for someone. It's probably best to just skip over that one.

The last one is of Red and what appears to be an older gentleman. This picture is a bit weird though, because the gentleman changes depending on who looks at the photo. Each person will see the gentleman as an 'older male figure they trust and respect'. So like, Mitsuru might see her father, or Ren might see Sojiro, or they might see generic 'cool old guy who's really trustworthy'. It depends on their view.]

[Ren smiles softly at the candids of Red and Archer]

They... are really cute.

[He stares at the Akechi ones for a few moments each, and almost pauses on the posed Red one, but swipes past quickly before he can be Executed.

But the last one...]

That man... it- Sojiro?!

[GOOD PLAN, REN. Mitsuru is watching over his shoulder, and he'll notice her visibly stiffen when Ryoji comes up, and also give him a sharp look at the posed Red one. but once they get to the last picture. . .]

[she immediately grabs for the phone]

-- Sojiro? No, that's. . .! My father?!

Wha- no way, that's definitely Sakura-san-!

Impossible! I'd know my father regardless of--

[. . . wait]

[ah]

-- no. Are we seeing two different things?

... is that even possible? What does your father look like?

. . . he was-- [past tense] -- an older man, with black hair and an eye patch. Takeharu Kirijo.

[le_mat]

I'm seeing my guardian back in Tokyo, Sakura-san. He has black hair too but no eye patch. Do... did Kirijo-san have a beard?

[fallbymyhands]

No. He didn't.

But why are we seeing two different people?

[le_mat]

...they're both parental figures.

[fallbymyhands]

. . .

I wonder, then, if this is Red's father.

[le_mat]

Maybe. Either way, there's something messing with our heads just looking at it. Might be worth showing the others.

...these pictures of the other campers too. I... recognize someone from home in them. The others might too.

You're right. We should show everyone what we've found. You have all of this on your phone, yes?

If so, then we'll show them your version, and I'll return this one to Red.

[le_mat]

Yeah. I'm... going to delete some of the candids though. Doesn't seem right to sniff in her personal life.

You're right; it doesn't. This feels like an invasion of privacy already.

[le_mat]

We have to do what we have to do. I like Red, and I think she would help us if she could. But at the end of the day she's our enemy.

[He starts deleting the personal pics]

Doesn't mean we have to play completely dirty, though.

Not by choice. You saw how she reacted when she was told to execute Kon and Sakasaki.

[she'll take Red's phone and slip it into her pocket]

. . . I understand her situation far more than I'd like to admit. If anything, I want to. . . free her.

[le_mat]

... me too.

[He fiddles with his own phone, frowning deeply]

But if there's one thing I've figured out today... it's that sometimes you have to prioritize. I want to save everyone, but if it came down to it I'd go for all of you over her. In a heartbeat.

[fallbymyhands]

[she doesn't know how that makes her feel]

And if her survival is necessary for our own?

[le_mat]

I think that's the only way any of us are getting out of this. Red is too powerful, and even if we managed to make a run for it-

[He stops, shaking his head]

-anyway. She doesn't deserve this. Her or Stan. I'm just... still getting used to trusting adults.

[ah. . . that earns him an inquiring look, but]

Adults can be selfish and cruel. I know-- what the consequences of trusting the wrong ones feels like.

[mmm]

But I don't believe Red to be selfish nor cruel, if that helps.
