WEEK 6

Last week had been pretty brutal, leaving scars on everyone in camp. A murder driven by paranoia-induced visions, committed by and against two of the youngest members of camp, has left everyone reeling. If this is the way murders will go, what's to happen next?

The humidity is dropping off some, but the heat is staying strong. The campers will need to find new ways to beat the heat. A delivery is due this week though, so maybe the camp's deliveryman will have some ice cream?

The WiiU and current games are all here, but there are no new games. Sorry everyone, you're stuck with what you have. Usagi and Boa are now gone from the Mii menu, but that strange faceless Mii is still there, staring as always. His grin seems to have grown though, and the Mii menu music has changed as well. The other Miis seem scared of the grinny Mii, and they are staying far away from him. Now the only selectable Mii is grin-face. How weird.

The counselors have said they need 'more time' to end this, but just how much time do they need? Can the campers really stall long enough for the counselors to finish their plan? And how does that knowledge sit with them, knowing that each delayed week means less campers will make it in the end?

Yeah! Like we were talking about the rabbit ears the other day. Maybe ... we had it backwards. Maybe Sol's signal is too strong and ours needs to be stronger. It's part of why the pictures I put in the shack are of all of us hanging out with them, being friends. That way ... Sol gets what it's like to have friends instead of being afraid ... and our friends might remember us better.

The description of the shack decorations actually gets a smile out of him, just picturing it; it's a little wan this week, but real.]

But that's not a bad idea. Pictures, if we can't get through in words. They're easier to see even if there's something interfering.

[ Nine didn't really trust anyone but his own cabin at that time... ]

I'll try to talk to her too. If enough of us try, then it'll increase the chances, right?

[he mimes putting on a stethoscope and holds the invisible end of it to Mittens' chest]

[pardon him while he looks in your ears]

Yes. Yes. A bonafide case of Camp Bullshititis. Dr. Tozier's official prescription? I think you need to learn how to play Hungry Hungry Hippos.

[OFF TO THE REC ROOM]

WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE. Red's always saying that "function complete" bullshit. Maybe she really IS a robot!!!!

Eddie drew a really good one of him and Stan, too, so it'll know that some of the counselors are good people, too. They're just stuck like we are.

[mentioning Stan brings him down a little, though, and he frowns]

Archer said he's in jail. I hope they don't just feed him bread and water or something. He deserves better than that.

Yeah! I think that's a good idea. I mean - it was her idea to have this meeting. Maybe we should invite them to the next one.

... If I didn't know any better, I'd think your glasses were making you smarter, dude.

[The height difference and the difference in momentum and the fact that they're among the lake waves being buffeted by the current and the water in general means that -- well, it's fairly easy for balance to become a thing of the past. So that's exactly what happens: Lenka pitches forward, accidentally pulling Eddie with him and probably both of them end up in the water with an almighty splash.

And he just stays there afterwards, on hands and knees because at least the water isn't quite deep enough to make that too difficult. They're both pretty soaked now, and the lake water tastes just as bad as the other times he's been dunked in it, but at least a little better than tears.

There's something about the splash that slaps him back to at least semi-awareness, enough to register that someone else is with him.]

... Eddie.

[he does a quick count]

Six. We need ... a lot more. If we're gonna wallpaper the place. Which is totally the idea.

[Eddie gasps sharply]

Holy shit, you're right! And that giant computer sword?! She could be a fucking robot!

Yeah! Let's just do laps around the camp. Maybe we'll see something we can use, you know? Like ... another fucking animal with a computer stick or something.

[climbing onto the bike feels like meeting an old friend. he takes a second to run his hands over the handlebars, feeling the chinks and cracks in the plastic, the place where the end of one cover busted when he dropped it too hard on the sidewalk outside the movie theatre that one summer, the remnants of duct tape from putting streamers on it for the 4th of July parade when he was 12 ...]

If you'd told me on Saturday I'd feel this fucking good on a Monday I never would have believed you.

[Lenka's loss of balance coupled with the waves and shifting sand and rocks nder his feet makes it pretty easy for Eddie's feet to slip from under him. Eddie cries out as Lenka topples him into the water. He barely manages to take a breath before he's suddenly submerged. Thankfully, it's not too deep so he's able to sit up and take a breath. He sweeps water and a the fringe of hair out of his eyes and realizes Lenka's on his hands and knees above him.]

Welcome back to reality, Lenka.

[ There's several things that hit him.

Where we are and being in relation to the locked door.

And these stupid as hell feelings that are coming with Lenka talking? Like what is this he doesn't see Adventure Bro in that way?!

Have Nine up, already thinking of running to the door but also kind of staring at Lenka with clear confusion because WTF??? ]

Okay. ... But the ones that say 2 ... how do you know which two blocks they go in?

[he scrunches up his face in that way he gets when he's confused, but having fun - like when they're stuck inside on rainy days doing the giant 1000-piece puzzles from the drugstore on his bedroom floor with the radio on]

[ He's plenty smart! Maybe. Sometimes... ]

It'd explain why she doesn't remember some of the stuff we've found, too - it's not in her memory files!

Speaking of powers? I think Red's a robot. I think Stan and Archer are probably robots, too. That video we found last night? It makes sense. I mean, think about it: every Saturday, Red says "Function complete". Isn't that a robotty thing to say? And if she can't remember everything we find? What if ... it's literally not in her memory?

That's why it's a puzzle! You do the easy parts first, that makes the harder ones easier.

[He points to one of the squares towards the bottom left]

See how the first column is all filled in? That starts each row with one. So if any of the rows have another number, like two, you know to fill in another block. See?

[He smiles, patiently explaining it to Richie. He knows Richie's smart and could pick it up pretty quickly, so he's careful not to overexplain.]

[His chest is tight and his grasp on everything is still vague, so Lenka moves and speaks only slowly, but he does eventually move away to give Eddie room. There's contriteness mixed in with the water and the wind of the lake slowly trickling back in along with awareness -- the world isn't still and silent and full of faces, even if there are still figures waiting at the corner of his vision.

If he turns his head he might see them again.

Lenka closes his eyes instead, because they're in the lake and part of him recognizes the wrongness in that, and that he can't keep doing this. So he cuts it off. Tries to breathe through it now that most of the water's run back down into the lake.]
