WEEK 7

A new counselor, and a brutal execution. Camp just continues to surprise, doesn't it?

The rain is back, though this time it is in sprinkles and light showers. It helps bring the temperature down, but in the breaks between those mists the humidity is brutal.

The WiiU is still here, but for some reason none of the games will play. Instead all you can do is watch the faceless Mii on the Mii menu while the remaining Miis (minus Floe, Gonta, and Shirou) cower off to the sides.

Eleven of you are left. You have made it past the 'keep ten alive to the start of week 7' warning that Red gave, but what will happen now? Is this it? Is this who will survive? Or will more death happen? And what's going to happen to the dead?

A lot of questions still need answering.

Yeah, it wants to live like a real kid. I didn't even think about drawing pictures of home! That's a great idea!

[he looks at the booklet with immense curiosity, but has enough presence of mind to not grab for it]

What's that?

[Wise choice, Richie. It's a booklet of paper from this very room that's been hand-bound with string. He spares it a glance as he sets it down, reaching for some of the loose paper instead.]

It's just something I made to draw in when I got here. [Hmm, let's try color pencils today.] I guess scenes from earth are probably better...

[Vision, after all, isn't "real."]

You made this? It looks like it came from one of those fancy paper stores or some shit, wow! Can you show me how you did it? Like, later?

[he'll start laying down a thick, broad stream of blue on his paper, then go over it again with pale brown, because the water in the Barrens is far from pristine]

Hm? Oh, sure.

[It's not too bad to put together, and they're not pressed for time. He starts off sketching streets, a bar of yellow slightly raised on the apparent sidewalk.]

Cool.

[rocky shores covered in bushes and weeds start to slowly spring up on either side of the water. Richie's technique for scenery is mostly scribble, but somehow it starts to coalesce into something decent the more the scribbles layer onto each other]

[Mitsuru's own lines tend to be a scattered mess, but they all come together in the end, giving shading and depth where one might not expect it. The center of the image is darkest, boldest, but zig-zagging lines begin to form a completely normal, narrow street, high walls concealing houses and a cheerful blue sky above. There's even a cat on one of those walls, a lazy, dark lump whose tail hangs down in a curl.

Sol would much rather see scenes like this, he thinks, than anything from Vision.]

I wish I could draw animals, I'm kinda shitty at them. I can only do stuff like this, and people. Did you see the one I drew for Red?

[she's hung it up in her office. it's kind of ridiculous: the monster movie mash-up he snarked at her about during the art contest]

[He pauses to check Richie's style against what he remembers of her room.]

...With the monsters?

[Ironically, she has one of his as well: a sketch of her from profile view, sad and yet determined all the same.]

Yeah, that one.

[there's a vampire attacking a werewolf in a letterman's jacket, and the Creature From the Black Lagoon is groping the Bride of Frankenstein. the Mummy is peeking in through a doorway in the background. the werewolf has an "oh shit" speech bubble, and the Bride's says "oh yeah baby".

he's very mature.

it is a masterpiece.]

[he puffs his chest out for a moment with a proud smile, then slumps back over his drawing, adding in the trestle of the freight railroad in the distance, a rusty red]

After I do the Barrens, do you think Sol would want to see the movie theatre more, or the library? Or like, the park?

Movies and books are only good if Sol knows what they are. If Sol really wants to see the world as a human... nature, or normal life might be good.

[He'll just finish up his shading.]

I didn't even think of that.

[he pauses]

Holy shit! That's another great idea! Usagi said we should do stuff for them that a kid in bed would do with friends... what if we read them a book?

[He looks up with a mild curiosity.]

You can, if you'd like.

I don't even know if we have any good books here. Maybe I'll go ask Red.
