WEEK 3

Another Sunday, another day to rest and recover after trial. The weather is now uncomfortably hot and humid after all the rain - perfect swimming weather, if what happened during the execution didn't put you off from swimming for a good long while.

As before, The RV's have changed, but it might not be the best idea to go and bother them after last week's...well, mistake. Maybe give it a week to rest. Additionally, if anyone tries to play the Wii, they will find that Chloe, Talcott, and Sayama's Miis have disappeared - as well that the machine itself is spitting out some strange music at the home screen and the Mii channel. The games seem unaffected by the musical change, at least - and there's now a copy of Mario Party 9 ready to be played alongside Wii Sports. Try not to murder each other or fling the wiimotes into the tv, alright?

The rest of the camp is the same as always, though now fishing equipment is always left out near the lake and beach, and there's a taped on sign on the slope railing declaring 'DO NOT LEAN ON.' Looks like they finally noticed the hazard that thing could potentially be. The kitchen has been fully scrubbed, the faint scent of lemon wafting in the air. Hm.

Two weeks have gone by, and with it, 6 of your fellow campers are gone. There are only six weeks left - six long weeks, and your chances of making it out dwindle all the time.

Knowing that, what will you do?

I'm not dangerous! [That comes out in a rush, as Chuuta steps back with his hands raised and open. He's not dangerous, because when you're a gloomy kid with no friends or interest in friendship who talks to yourself like you're talking to another person and all the rumors around you always come back to there was an incident and they never found the bodies, "not dangerous" is the best you can hope for, "not dangerous" is what people say about you to be reassure strangers.]

["They know too much about all of us. If you're labeled as only one level below me and you are truly clueless as to why, that is a detriment.

It means we can't trust you have control."]

[This isn't information he wants to share, but the only other option right now is being seen as too dangerous. And people who are too dangerous here are going to get killed.]

... Drew has self-defense capabilities. [Chuuta says, finally.]

[Better. Mitsuru settles back somewhat, slightly more appeased.

"Such as?"]

[He needs to pick something.]

[Drew thought you wanted to keep this a secret?]

Yeah, but...

Um, if we were attacked, Drew could use his SPH to restrain someone while we ran away.

["What is SPH?"]

It's a power that a lot of aliens from my universe have. It's like, a type of energy we don't have on Earth. [Please don't make him say "space pheromones" out loud.]

["Explain more clearly

Why would this power scare the hunters into wanting to keep you from getting involved?

Can we rely on you or not?"]

[He picks one question to answer.]

You can rely on me.

["Then tell us what we can rely on you to do."]

[There's a fraction of a second where Chuuta feels Drew's intent before anything happens. Protectiveness and defensiveness and the sudden shifting of Mitsuru from a category vaguely defined as "a person here" to "potential threat". It's all very fast, and Chuuta barely has time to take a breath before Drew is out, fangs bared and fins flared and Chuuta feels sympathy.]

Crochet!

[Chuuta barks, directing the blindingly bright blue light coming out of Drew's mouth into something that isn't the needlelike blast he knows it was about to be.

At this distance, Mitsuru would most likely have trouble reacting before the energy blast hits, covering him in a glowing blue net. Drew's SPH is notoriously difficult to break through or overpower, though it would probably be more intimidating if it weren't shaped by Chuuta's will into an actual crochet pattern.]

[And so Mitsuru ends up netted.

The shock is clear on his face, but soon he's chanting, and quickly at that. Shadows seem to be gathering into a humanoid figure outside of the net, almost like a wingless pixie...]

Come, Balbylone, daughter of darkness!

[It figures that there would be trouble, with everyone’s secrets suddenly being dragged out into the open like this and all the paranoia and terrible everything else this week — and he’d known Chuuta was on edge but Mitsuru is usually levelheaded enough. There’s a lot going on in both their profiles, though, and while Lenka’s guard is a little more relaxed because he apparently has no secrets (almost), he’s certainly on alert for conflict around him.

Lenka’s already moving when he sees Chuuta suddenly sprout... whatever he just sprouted and by the time Mitsuru is chanting he’s between them, back to Mitsuru where his Arc might cushion whatever spell he’s trying reflexively to unleash.]

Enough. This isn’t the time.

[It’s never really the time for things like this, something less open than full hostilities but possibly more dangerous than a demonstration. Chill out, tinies.]

Slip stitch! [Chuuta yells, as Mitsuru starts talking. The thin thread of blue that comes from Drew's mouth curves around Lenka as he moves to block, and stitches through Mitsuru's face, sewing his jaws together. It's painless, but would be difficult to break.

It's not the time but Chuuta and Drew are both on edge, and Lenka's command isn't quite enough to get them to dissolve the SPH.]

I told you, Drew has defensive capabilities!

[Turns out we didn't need duct tape to begin with.

Someone please stop him from looking around for the biggest thing he can fling telekinetically.]

[All we really needed was the more flowery version of duct tape! Because none of these kids can do anything by halves, natch.

Lenka doesn't need to look back more than once to know that Mitsuru is probably about to do some magic even with his mouth stitched shut -- this is looking to turn into either these two venting their frustrations at each other or some kind of magical stick-measuring contest or both, and Mitsuru is probably more likely to get on board with the latter. So.

He stays where he is and shakes his head.]

Mitsuru. Stand down. We don't want to damage anything here.

[Laptops, guys. Laptops and other children and they just stole something from the RVs, do you really want to draw more of their attention with a magic bitty fight.]

Chuuta. [...] Drew. What are you trying to do?

[It feels like a fight, one he's not ready for and would rather have avoided, an opponent in front of him and no one standing behind him. No one to protect, no reason to be here, and--

What are you trying to do?]

[He's an enemy, Chuuta!]

What? [That's what they're feeling, of course, but when Drew says it Chuuta realizes that there's no reason to feel that way. So why does he still feel like Mitsuru is going to try and kill him?

The SPH around Mitsuru dissolves, so someone should probably make sure he's okay and not still in attack mode.]

He's... he wasn't attacking us!

[He was bullying you.]

You've never done anything about bullies before!

[He's back on his feet quickly, one hand curled and brushing over his mouth as though to ensure there isn't really anything binding him any longer. The look in his eyes is definitely what one might charitably refer to as "murderous," but he is not, at the moment, retaliating.

This probably has everything to do with Lenka's presence because that's clear enough where words are only a fuzzy murmur at best to his ears.]

[Chuuta's powers are one big unknown: Lenka really has no idea how much of the fight is Chuuta and how much is Drew, and that makes it infinitely harder to know how to talk them down, but it seems as though addressing them both and trying to get them to think for a moment about their actions has at least done the trick for the time being.

It might be a misunderstanding, or something that will escalate into something worse, but with three people involved, only two (or one-and-a-half, now that we're remembering Mitsuru's specific sensory loss, oops) of which can really communicate properly... it was bound to be a mess.

He softens his voice a little, once the boy-and-alien one man show winds down.]

... Drew. If you really want to protect Chuuta, this isn't the way to do it. Not now. Not like this.

[It is probably having the exact opposite effect in general, but let's start with that. He also takes a moment to glance back at Mitsuru, and gives him a quick nod once he sees that things are quiet on that front despite... the murderous intent. Leave this to him for now.]

[Mitsuru's expression doesn't help either Chuuta or Drew calm down, and Drew is still watching the boy with fangs bared while Chuuta is still tensed for a fight. ]

He wouldn't leave me alone. [Chuuta says, and regrets that as soon as he says it.]

[Mitsuru continues to look pretty pissed, but it cools - goes ice cold, as a matter of fact. He can't hear Chuuta, but that won't stop him from piping up:]

Careful that he doesn't continue to lie.

[Lenka has a split second where he kind of wishes Mitsuru had been struck mute instead of... he was deaf, wasn't he? That would explain some things, though it's impressive that he could actually push Chuuta all the way here and then needle him for lying without ever hearing a word he said.

Looks like it's the younger kids' turn to be a disaster and a half. He's just going to shake his head to himself, briefly, and hold up a hand in Mitsuru's direction to hopefully indicate, Shut up for a second.

He's trying to keep you from kicking each other's asses, here.]

... Just don't listen to him, for now. Listen to me. We're all on edge, but -- is this what you usually use your powers for?

Drew has defensive capabilities. [Chuuta repeats. That's what it is, but Chuuta and Drew's sympathy can stretch to defending other people as well, which is where it borders on attack.]

I told Mitsuru-kun that. He just kept... pushing. He kept asking what I could do.

I know I didn't tell anyone before! But I just didn't want anyone to try and hurt us!

[He purses his lips but remains silent. Lenka's ask to shut up acknowledged, reluctantly.]

[soylentprotag]

... I know.

[And Lenka does know, most of them are probably keeping something in reserve or on the down-low; they have a lot of dangerous or conditionally dangerous people; the profiles have stirred something of a hornet’s nest.

He gives a small shake of his head at Chuuta, though.]

But if you’re not defending yourself against someone else’s powers... there’s no reason to use yours.

[If all of them did that... well, there probably wouldn’t be a camp left if just a handful of them did that. The rest of the lake and forest might be gone at a bigger scale. Some part of him really hopes the hunters are well aware of that. But that’s neither here nor there.]
