INVESTIGATION

You've got all your senses back, but with the return of them comes a grim, familiar knowledge -

- that one of your fellow campers have committed murder.

Someone is dead. It's up to you to find out who...and to gather evidence for it.

[To the lodge entrance?]

[The first noticeable thing here is that the grass is all burnt up in a small patch.]

[Hmmm! Is the patch pretty contained or what?]

[It's pretty contained! It's also wet. Like it was burned THEN it got wet.]

[The result of putting it out, maybe?

What's the second thing noticeable around here?]

[Maybe!

There's also a stab mark in the ground. Like someone jammed something into the ground roughly.]

Did someone put out a torch here or....?

[ Yeah he's still here though he's mostly uselessly watching Mitsuru look around. ]

[Any blood or fabric or debris there? Or a good shape of whatever made the mark?]

[No blood or fabric! And it looks like a blade or a spearhead may have made it.]

...Someone's got some sort of blade.

[Not a great sign.]

But that doesn't match with Clarke's wound.

We've had a few weapons like this around before... but unless they stabbed an actually body, I doubt it matters.

[ Hrm. ]

[Hmm indeed.]

[Richie comes up, carrying the broken bit of railing covered in blood on one end]

Uhh ... guys? Look what I found at the bottom of the hill.

[...?]

That's...

[Something that would have been able to make the wound, yes, but--]

The blood isn't black.

[ Boa looks over at Mitsuru with similar confusion in his eyes, then turns back to Richie. ]

Did you find the person injured by this?

... No. We just found Natsume, unconscious. For a second we thought he was dead.

[he squirms a little]

... Do we know who's dead yet?

Clarke. Found her in the field.

[His tone is completely expressionless.]

She had a strange wound on her side, and we couldn't figure out what caused it. Black blood, too.

[ Boa doesn't look any more affected by this week's death than Mitsuru is, but unlike Mitsuru he keeps a careful eye on Richie's emotional reaction to the news.

Otherwise he stays quiet. ]

Shit.

[his voice catches, and he swallows, squinting back tears]

She never did anything to anybody. This sucks.

[he just ... drops the end of the railing he's holding, and covers his face in his hands, pushing his glasses up onto his forehead]

[And he'll just catch that with telekinesis, easy as can be.]

...We should keep this with us. We'll probably need it to find whoever did this.

[ And at that reaction, Boa's by Richie's side, laying an arm around his shoulder. Though it feels embarrassing to do this in front of Mitsuru, the gained security of this week makes it easier to go for it anyway. Richie deserves this support and Boa shouldn't let anyone keep him from giving it. ]

I think ... I think something happened up on the porch. The railing's broken, and there's blood down the hill, like somebody fell. Or got pushed.

Her back was...

[-But they're also hugging and, look. He doesn't really care? But he's not oblivious to emotional states, either.

(He just usually doesn't care.)]

...Maybe we should save it for the meeting.

[ Boa glances past Richie's head to give Mitsuru a knowing look at the mention of Clarke's back. This adds up in all ways except in the one way it should...

But also Richie's pretty upset so Boa pats his back. ]

They'll make us do it anyway, it's true...

Yeah.

[he'll soak up that hug a moment longer, then pull it together as best he can]

I ... I should go tell Eddie. He's still inside. ... Thanks, Boa.
