Week 6 After Party(??)

[Well... that was sure a thing.

A fucking terrifying thing, but a thing, nonetheless.

Eddie stokes the fire a little, trying to chase back some of the shadows creeping up on the circle. He might not be able to do much but he does his best to try to make it seem at least a little more comforting than it feels. He crosses to the woods and picks up a a bunch of long narrow sticks, bringing them back and setting them near enough to the fire for people to grab them if they want. Archer might be cooking in the kitchen, and he sure as shit isn't going to interrupt that to ask him for food, but he does sneak in just long enough to grab the makings for s'mores.

So there are now sticks, marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate bars near the fire. He also snagged some of the blank paper and crayons Richie had been using to make drawings for the time-out shack, so if anyone feels like some art therapy, there ya go.

He can be found lighting a marshmallow on fire. He doesn't seem interested in eating it, though, since it looks like it's about to melt off the stick.]

Dammit, why the hell does that asshole get the cool sword world spell?!

Emiya was able to make swords, if nothing else. I suppose that power is just... his power, honed to an incredible degree.

[But no seriously why does Shirou/Archer get that.]

I don't think power like that is even possible in Vision.

...actually. [ NOW THAT SHE THINKS ABOUT IT: ] Gensokyo is a pocket dimension, it's contained within itself. If it's anythin' like that world he made, the Sages who made Gensokyo could probably pull it off in a smaller scale.

[ but uh. she is not a Sage ]

Yeah. Way back when, they made Gensokyo and put up the Great Hakurei Barrier--it's what keeps Gensokyo and the Outside World from intermixin' together. It's the world's most powerful bounded field, a sealed location you can't cross unless somethin' big goes down. I got to go to the Outside World once, but only usin' a bunch of keystone-things from all over the place, and I got shoved back out later.

Anyway, I know one'a the Sages, but she's a total pain in the ass. I think one'a my friends might be a Sage, too, but she's real shifty about it.

Do you know anything about their techniques?

A little. The one I know has a power to manipulate boundaries. She usually just uses her powers to be annoyin', 'cause she can rip open gaps in the air and teleport from place to place, she likes poppin' into my house outta the blue or takin' stuff outta my hands.

[ and really, how annoying does one have to be to make Marisa think you're a pest? ]

She's actually really powerful, though. "Boundaries" can mean just about anythin'--the boundary between lake and sky, between night and day, between reality and fiction.

[ Marisa thinks for a moment, and begins reciting something. ]

"If there were no boundaries, everything would probably exist as a single enormous object. Thus, the ability to manipulate boundaries is by logic an ability of creation and destruction. It essentially creates a new existence, or conversely rejects some existence."

[...That sounds extremely petty, Mitsuru thinks, as though he weren't at all petty himself.]

That spell Archer used... Maybe tearing down a boundary between another world and this one? Or establishing a new boundary to form that place...

[...Darn it. Even then, there's a lot of possibilities.]

Maybe not quite that, but...I'm pretty sure it was some kinda bounded field, now that I think about it. She can make those really well--Gensokyo is just a big one. The concept is easy, but they're harder to make with pure magic than they are with spiritual magic.

...So we're on the same page, what's the difference between them in your world?

Spiritual magic is when you're backed by a god. I have a friend who's a shrine maiden, so she channels the power of the god of her shrine, or other gods in the area whose power she needs to borrow. 'Cause she has spiritual magic, she can do things like purifications or exorcisms. Makin' bounded fields is an extension of that, 'cause you purify the space inside of the field, ejecting the matter outside of it.

...You know, there are spells where I draw from spirits. [The summons, specifically.] But actually, I'm not sure if my power comes from the goddess, or if she simply gave me the ability to use it.

[ She nods. ]

Well, if you do use magic from your goddess, you can probably make bounded fields easier, yeah? That'd be a bonus for you, if your magic works anythin' like the spiritual magic I know.

Even if it doesn't...bounded fields are somethin' you can do without a god. It's just harder.

How would you go about it, then?

[He does have his barrier spell, but that's the nearest he has to anything of the sort...]
