TRIAL

It takes a full day after finding the body, but on Saturday, the counselors call you all to the campfire, the bonfire already roaring away as everyone finds their seats. Stan and Red are seated there, with Stan holding a box saying 'VOTES' written on it.

It looks like you're here to find the killer.

And just like before, you know you'll be forced to vote before the night's over...

And condemn someone to a grisly fate.

Not a smart move to make when you're already looking pretty suspicious. Do we even have any reason to rule him out right now?

Do you guys actually think Chuuta would be stupid enough to implicate himself so obviously?

What, do you think someone's trying to frame him? Wouldn't someone have noticed if someone came in and just fucking smeared paint all over his bed? Wouldn't he?

No, because Sol keeps us from noticing stuff like that. It's happened with the previous murders too.

But we can't just fucking ignore evidence just 'cause someone might have made us not notice something. We can't just say something's important when it's convenient and fucking ignore shit just 'cause you don't wanna say someone might be guilty.

If he's innocent, he's innocent, but I'm not gonna fucking rule something out til I see proof that it was someone else.

All I'm saying is that we're making a lot of guesses here. Your guess is that he was hallucinating not having paint on himself, mine is that someone tried to frame him. Either one's equally possible.

I never said he was hallucinating, Shirou. I'm just saying, why go to the trouble of trying to frame Chuuta?

To avoid being caught, obviously. The killer didn't want to be executed, so they decided to scapegoat someone else. And it looks like they picked well, since you and Richie have been so eager to blame him.

[He sighs.]

Look, I'm not saying he's not a suspect, or that we should be ignoring the evidence. I just don't think all of this adds up.

Then we don't ignore the evidence. We make sure we know what it's doing.

[Lenka's tone is mostly calm, though there's tension running under it. A little more than there always is at trials, but he goes on.]

When I came in, there was paint on Chuuta's bunk, but the paint on him came from his bunk when he got out. If he was at the shack and killed Usagi, there should have been more paint on him.

People can wash off, you know...? Though I guess going back to the cabin first and then washing off later is not the order one would normally go in.

He could've cleaned up first. Obviously, whoever killed her did, because I didn't see any walking Pepto Bismol ads on Friday morning, did you?

Did anyone check the bathrooms for paint? Or the trash?

And why would he go straight to bed after? He'd still have to be wet for it to get on the sheets- and whoever killed Usagi had to go and at least talk to Red after. Even if the wet air kept it from drying out, they definitely were thinking through ways to hide it - no way they would leave such an obvious clue after all that effort.

There's a lot of things that could have prevented him from noticing, aren't there?

All of us have been hallucinating. What's to say his perception wasn't being obscured in some way?

Sure, that's possible. Or someone else poured paint all over him and left behind that empty bucket you found at the pavilion.

Either way, I wouldn't be so fast to cross him off the suspect list yet.

I'm not crossing him off. All I'm saying is that we can't assume he's definitely guilty.

Drew's not looking very sane here today either though. Heard running but didn't really know where from...? That might be a total lie, but he seems disoriented.

We were all going through hallucinations. That would have been part of it, but once she was dead, that wouldn't have been an issue, right?

I think the hallucinations are from the stones in our heads... All our eyes changed this week and they never changed back either.
